A view count in proportion to your followers
Followers and plays tell visitors different things, and people notice when the two don’t line up. An account with 8,000 followers whose newest videos show 600 plays each looks as if most of those followers stopped watching long ago. On accounts with a few thousand followers, 10,000 plays on a key video is a figure that reads as ordinary next to the header rather than conspicuous.
Take a creator with 6,000 followers whose pinned video sits at 1,200 plays. Adding 10,000 takes it to 11,200, under twice the follower count, which is unremarkable for the video an account has chosen to pin. On an account with 150 followers, the same 11,200 would stand out a mile, and 1,000 TikTok views is the better fit there.
Launch videos: a product or a release
The other common use is a video you’re about to send people to. When you link a TikTok from a newsletter, a bio link, a poster or a press release, its play count is the first number newcomers see.
- A product launch. A Bristol skincare brand introduces a new cleanser with a 30-second demo, then links that one video from its email list and website on launch day.
